SCREENWRITER // DIRECTOR BIO
Alice Bell is a screenwriter who lives in Sydney. She wrote the very dark and multi-award winning SUBURBAN MAYHEM which was invited to the Cannes Film Festival in 2006. It was the first screenplay she’d ever written and won her the AWGIE for Best Original Screenplay that year.
Alice was the co-creator, script producer and screenwriter of the 6 part ABC miniseries THE BEAUTIFUL LIE, collaborating with producers John Edwards and Imogen Banks, directors Glendyn Ivin, Peter Salmon and co-writer Jonathan Gavin. Alice wrote four of the six episodes.
Alice was one of the original set up writers on PUBERTY BLUES (S1&2) for Channel Ten which won the AACTA award for Best Drama in 2013. She was also the script producer of Series 2, alongside co-writer Tony McNamara. Alice belongs to the team of writers that produced the ABC’s award winning miniseries THE SLAP (Alice wrote the “Connie” episode) for which she won an AWGIE Award in 2012. She has written an episode of Jacqueline Perske and Claudia Karvan’s spooky comedy SPIRITED (S2) which earned her another nomination at the 2012 Awgie awards. Alice was also one of the original writers on police rescue drama RUSH (Series 1, 2 and 3), produced by John Edwards and Mimi Butler.
Alice is currently writing on OFFSPRING S6 & S7 for Channel 10, starring Asher Keddie and Kat Stewart.
Sometimes Alice directs music videos having made clips for Silverchair, Missy Higgins, Toni Collette, Little Birdy and Jimmy Barnes. Her most popular video Silverchair’s “Straight Lines” won Alice and her co-director Paul Goldman an ARIA award for Best Music Video in 2007.
In 2009 Alice completed a 5 month intensive writer’s workshop at the prestigious Binger Filmlab in Amsterdam, producing screenplay
GIN & TONIC, which is now in its final stages of development with Cherie Nowlan attached as director, Leah Churchill-Brown and Amanda Higgs as producers and Jan Chapman as Script Consultant. She is also working alongside her Puberty Blues director, Emma Freeman and producer, Leanne Tonkes on feature film THE CIRCUS, hoping to shoot in 2017.
Alice is currently in development on her next TV series collaboration with television producer, Imogen Banks.
